Stewards Foundation to sponsor “National Learn To Row Day”

TAMPA, Fla. - Have you ever watched rowers gliding along the surface of the water and wished you could do that? Now you can!

The United States Rowing Association in coordination with Concept 2 is teaming with The Stewards Foundation locally to sponsor this Special Event in Tampa. It will be held on The Hillsborough River June 6, 2009 from 8AM to 2 PM. It is FREE and open to the public.

This event is designed to give everyone a taste of rowing. Except having the ability to swim, you need no other previous athletic experience. Anyone over the age of 12 is welcome to try the sport. (Parents must accompany anyone under 18, please)

“Rowing is a lifetime sport. It is fun and highly competitive; Rowing is the ultimate, low-impact, cardiovascular exercise”, notes Tom Feaster, a member of the Board of Directors of The United States Rowing Association and President of The Stewards Foundation.

At this hands-on demonstration, novices will learn how to handle a boat and oars, experience the parts of the stroke on the Concept 2 ergometer (rowing machine), and then get out on the water. Experienced coaches will be on hand to help.
