SEC BASKETBALL SET TO INVADE TAMPA IN MARCH

TAMPA, Fla. - March Madness kicks off in Tampa Bay when the St. Pete Times Forum hosts the 2009 SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament. Fans and alumni from all 12 SEC schools will invade the Bay area the second week of March to watch their team compete for the 2009 SEC Championship. • What?

Tampa Bay will host the SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament for the first time in its history. This will be the first time the tournament has been held in the state of Florida since Orlando served as the host of the 1990 tournament. All 12 schools face off in this post season tournament that not only crowns the 2009 SEC Champion, but also gives an automatic bid into the 2009 NCAA Tournament.

• Where?

The St. Pete Times Forum. 401 Channelside Drive, Tampa, Florida 33602

The Forum is no stranger to hosting marquee events. This world-class facility with a basketball seating configuration of 21,655 served as the site of the 2008 NCAA Women’s Final Four, the 2008 NCAA Men’s First and Second Rounds, and the 2007 ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament. Additionally, the building is also home to the NHL’s Tampa Bay Lightning.

• When?

The tournament will take place March 12-15. The bracket schedule is as follows:

FIRST ROUND: March 12 (Thursday) @ 1:00 PM, 3:15 PM, 7:30 PM & 9:45 PM
SECOND ROUND: March 13 (Friday) @ 1:00 PM, 3:15 PM, 7:30 PM & 9:45 PM
SEMIFINALS: March 14 (Saturday) @ 1:00 PM & 3:15 PM
FINALS: March 15 (Sunday) @ 1:00 PM

As the 2009 SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament nears a sell-out of general public tickets, the Tampa Bay Sports Commission is pleased to offer a limited inventory of Corporate Contributor VIP Tournament Packages to individuals and/or corporations interested in supporting our community’s effort. • How can I volunteer?

The Tampa Bay Sports Commission is searching for members of the Tampa Bay community interested in volunteering this event!

• What else is going on that week?

Fans from across the nation will come to the Dr Pepper SEC FanFare during the SEC Weekend of Champions in Tampa Bay to partake in the many interactive games and attractions. There will even be chances to meet SEC Basketball Legends. The 2009 event is set for Thursday through Saturday, Mar. 12-15. The 100,000 square-foot attraction is immediately adjacent to the St. Pete Times Forum west plaza, home of the SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament.
