TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa and the Tampa Bay Sports Commission partnered to host the 2008 NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Soccer National Championships at the University of Tampa’s Pepin Rood Stadium from December 4-7. The Championship weekend kicked off with a special banquet honoring all eight qualifying teams at the University of Tampa’s Fletcher Hall.
The Men’s Championship featured Cal State University-Dominguez Hills, Dowling College, Northern Kentucky University and the University of Tampa, while the Women’s Championship showcased Metropolitan State College of Denver, the College of Saint Rose, Seattle Pacific University and the University of West Florida.
Saturday’s Women’s championship saw Seattle Pacific defeat West Florida 1-0 in double overtime to capture the program’s first national title while Sunday’s men’s championship match featured Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros posting their 14th shutout of the season in a dominating 3-0 win over Dowling University to give CSUDH its 2nd NCAA Title in the program’s history and first since 2000.
The Division II Men’s and Women’s Soccer National Championships are set to return to Tampa in 2009.
