Tampa, Fla. – On April 15-16, the Sundome at the University of South Florida, played host to American Cheer Power’s Tournament of Champions. This prestigious event showcased some of the top squads from all across the country, as this tournament featured only teams who placed in the top five at their respective national competitions. Close to 200 teams made the trek to Tampa, which roughly translated into 3,500 cheerleaders, and over 10,000 spectators.
“Florida is such a neat place,” remarked Regina Symons, president of American Cheer Power. “The kids love coming here to compete, relax, play, whatever. It is just so neat and so pretty, what a draw,” Symons said. Symons added that she expects Tampa to be the annual destination for this tournament, and would like to add another area location to the circuit.
The competitors in this tournament ranged in age and skill level, but all competitors had an exhausting season. The competitive cheerleading schedule runs from September to May, and the teams are constantly on the road, competing in venues of all sizes. As their season comes to a halt, the Tampa Bay Sports Commission would like to congratulate all the competitors on their hard work and dedication. See you next year.
